Fire and Rain, John F. D. Taff’s The Fearing series starts as it means to go on. It’s terrifying from the outset, it strums at our fear chords with no remorse or reason.
The frightening part of this book is that it is all our own fears. Earthquakes, snakes, even butterflies play a part. The most horrifying though is a man. Just a man, one who turns our fears against us. Forces us to act out the thing that we hide from most. He does it with a deep joy, a hatred that runs deeper than the core of our planet.
The Fearing: Fire and Rain is an apocalyptic masterpiece. It’s the terrifying gift that just keeps giving. What’s best, there are three more of these to come. I both excited and scared at what is to come.
